Homemade Caramel Sauce

Ingredients

water white granulated sugar heavy cream (35% fat) butter salt

STEP 1

Pour the water into a pan and add the sugar towards the center of the pan. 

STEP 2

Gently tap the pan to spread the sugar.

STEP 3

Bring to a boil, swirling occasionally to dissolve the sugar. Don't stir.

STEP 4

Wash down any stray sugar crystals by placing the lid on for 2 minutes or using a wet pastry brush.

STEP 5

Keep heating until the caramel turns amber or is slightly lighter than desired color.

STEP 6

Off the heat, carefully pour the heavy cream in several additions, stirring constantly.

STEP 6

The extremely hot caramel will bubble up so please be very careful not to burn yourself.

STEP 7

Add the butter and salt. Stir until fully combined.

 Enjoy!
