Homemade Vienna Bread

Ingredients

instant yeast whole milk all-purpose flour unsalted butter sugar salt

STEP 1

Stir the yeast and warm milk with a spoon and let it dissolve for 10 minutes.

STEP 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt and sugar.

STEP 3

Create a well in the middle of the flour and pour the milk mixture.

STEP 4

Mix (on low speed) until a ball forms, about 3 minutes.

STEP 5

Add the butter and mix again until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

STEP 6

Shape into a ball. Cover and let it rise for about 90 minutes, or until doubled in volume.

STEP 7

Gently punch down the dough and divide into two balls.

STEP 8

Shape each ball into an elongated loaf. Cover and let it rise for about an hour, or until puffy.

STEP 9

Brush with egg wash. Score and bake until golden brown.

 Enjoy!

For a chocolate version, fill with chocolate chips before baking!
